  5. and full of life.
Br Raj lived with us in Bush Lot from about the age of 15 or so for about 4 or 5 years.
He became our Big Brother as we were all girls in the family at that time .
He always helped around the house and Yard doing odd chores. We were all so grateful.

He was always interested in Education , including his passions which were painting and writing.

I distinctly remember him helping me to write an Essay when I was about 10,for a school assignment.

I had to chose a topic and he suggested it as : “A Rough Diamond”.
I had to look it up in the dictionary, as I did not even know what that meant.
Anyway, he corrected it and I think he even re_wrote the whole thing!
Well, Of course I got full marks and Teacher Lance Jaundoo said it was very well written.

I never said I got help!

He was quite talented, even at that young age.

Br Raj was always interested in and cared for our whole family . Each time he called -which was quite often- he would enquire about everyone.

He also cared for friends , always encouraging people to attend the Annual Bush Lot Picnic, which he helped to start in its younger days. Those were always a success and he knew everyone who attended and loved them all.

He cared deeply for his Loving wife and his boys. His boys were his world and they have become such talented young men. of whom he was so very proud.

Sr Chan , Sunil and Devin you will miss him tremendously, but you have such wonderful memories of him that they will help you through these difficult times.

He will be truly missed by our whole family and his hundred of friends.

    All our Love,
From Savitri , Brij, Reshmi, Hayley Bisessar and their families.

  10. I knew Naraine well for the last five years when he was a member of our Caribbean Canadian writers group here in Greater Toronto. I would say he was a man who had found his place in life and how rare is that! He thought his place would be as a teacher and writer in Guyana, but the PNC government there basically chased him out. He went to the United States and then to Canada where he put down his anchor. Found that his place in life was Canada, his purpose to take care of himself and his family, and to write his poems trying to improve the world and bring out the good in people. I believe he did them both, and in the years I knew him as a contented man and how rare is that?

  28. His humility, calling me ‘uncle’ tells me he has lived in the footsteps of his outstanding family who were very respectful and were role models for our community. I will miss him. He is one of many of that family of Bush lot WC Berbice who were pillars of the community which I remember for being kind and supportive as well as hard working. I pray for the Lord to bless his soul with Shanti.

  49. Sister Chan, you and your boys are precious and we lift up your family in prayers. I remember those days in the 1980’s when teacher Raj started the Bush Lot Picnic in Morningside Park and I was there to help him. So glad I was able to spend one last day with you and teacher Raj at your backyard and home. I treasure all the memories of this valued soul who has gone before us. Memories of teacher Raj have become my treasure. Now, may his sweet soul sleep in eternity.

  51. Dear Uncle Raj, I remember when you, Sunil and Devin came to my wedding nearly 20 years ago. We all loved your speech, which was full of humour and love. And we chuckled when we saw you sneak the hot pepper sauce out to spice up the food to your highest of standards. I recall you cooking metagee for us – it was the best, you were right about that.

You taught me so much about our family roots in India and Guyana and I am grateful for that. You were a warm and loving uncle, full of stories and knowledge. I will miss you dearly and am happy to have known you and to be related to such a fabulous person.

My thoughts and love are with auntie Chano and my dearest cousins, Sunil and Devin. Uncle Raj, you will always be remembered with deep love and admiration.
